Manatee Amazon Explorer (NEW)

Ecuador Amazon River Cruise (8 Days)

The new Manatee Amazon Explorer river motor yacht launched in July 2017 and has been specially built for cruises into the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest on the Napo River. The exclusively – designed vessel is set to explore this truly unique environment that offers Amazonian cultural immersion, as well as close encounters with wildlife and different ecosystems. Once on board, guests enjoy first class facilities including: an observation deck with a cozy amazon view hot tub, a comfortable bar and lounge, a Rainforest Spa featuring a scenic view, an Al fresco Shaded Lounge, a Explorer´s Boutique and exceptional culinary offerings. All cabins are contemporary in style and fully equipped with air conditioning, hot baths, ceiling-to-floor windows, private bathrooms with whirlpool bath tub and private balconies in order to ensure a pleasant journey on the Napo River. From all the areas you will always have a great view from which the passing scenery can be appreciated while soaking in the local colors of lush greenery. Days are usually spent exploring the small tributaries and lagoons of the Napo River in a warm tropical climate that allow guests to observe the flora and fauna in their natural habitat. You also have the option to enjoy one nights camping under the stars in the Amazonian rainforest on an optional camping excursion. (Applicable to 5 & 8 day itineraries)





Board the flight from Quito to Francisco de Orellana (Coca). Transfer from the airport to the Napo River port, where a motorized canoe will take you downstream for approximately one and a half hours, where you will board the Manatee Amazon Cruise.

Day 1: Coca - Napo River

Upon arrival at Coca airport, you will be transferred to the Napo River port. Then the motorized canoe ride downstream will be approximately one and a half hours; during the trip you will be provided with important information about the region. Once on board, the Manatee Amazon Cruise will start navigating down the Napo River. After dinner, plunge straight into the Amazon by going for a night-time forest walk to observe the forest’s nocturnal activity and experience the thrill of the vivid noises and aromas that come from so much biodiversity.

Day 2: Pañacocha Biological Corridor

The ship will navigate downstream to arrive at the mouth of the Pañayacu (Piranha River), where you will join a canoe trip through the Piranha River to see the sights of this interesting protected forest including Pink River Dolphins and the agile Common Squirrel Monkeys. After a refreshing swim in the Piranha Lake, enjoy a delicious Amazon-style BBQ and a cold drink at a nearby camp site. In the afternoon, you will go for an exploration walk, returning to the ship for dinner.

Day 3: Parrot Clay Lick

After breakfast join an excursion to Parrot Clay Lick, a great place to see a lot of bird species. Return to the ship for lunch, followed by an afternoon excursion exploring the Chaullacocha black water system, depending on the river´s water level; you may access this wonderful system either by walking or by paddling a canoe. Later, you will visit a Kichwa Cultural Center, where we will learn about Amazon communities and their ancestral culture, traditions, and cuisine. Return to the ship for your farewell dinner.

Day 4: Indillama and Napo River - Yasuní National Park

Start the day kayaking along the Indillama River, one of the Napo River’s tributaries, which leads us into Yasuni National Park. Kayaks are smooth and silent, providing the very best opportunity to observe wildlife. After an adventure filled day you choose to relax under the stars on the Observation deck or join a night walk through the jungle to observe nocturnal creatures.

Day 5: Yasuni National Park

After breakfast you will go on a motorized canoe to explore one of the large islands home to woodpeckers, eagles and many other birds. Return to the ship for lunch as she cruises along the Amazon river. Later in the afternoon you will visit the Yasuni National Park. This is a pristine and relatively undisturbed region of the Ecuadorian Amazon. It is home to the legendary Pink River Dolphin! In this area you will also find anacondas, river turtles and various primate species, as well as the colorful Hoatzin, a unique bird that is known locally as the “Stinky Turkey”. Near the park live the Secoyas, a minority community who you will have the opportunity to visit and learn about their traditions and crafts.

Day 6: Kichwa Family and Canoeing in a Blackwater Lake

In the morning you will start the day off by visiting an authentic Kichwa family located on the banks of the Napo River, where you will receive cultural immersion and the opportunity to learn directly from members of the local community. Return to the ship for lunch and some free time as the ship continues upstream. You may join in a cooking class preparing exquisite traditional Ecuadorian food that you can replicate at home. Late afternoon you can go canoeing in a blackwater lake home to giant otters and the magnificent, albeit elusive manatee.

Day 7: Forest Adventure and Observation Canopy Tower

After breakfast you will visit a canopy tower, built against a giant Kapok tree. The perspective at the top of this observation tower is truly glorious, looming above the lush treetops and providing a view of the sheer vastness of the Amazon Basin. In the afternoon explore a nearby forest for a walk to discover a myriad of different animals and plant species that can only be found in the Amazon basin. Return to the ship for your farewell dinner.

Day 8: Coca

This morning your voyages comes to an end. Journey by ship and then take the motorized canoe back to Coca (a one-and-a-half-hour ride).


Return by motorized canoe to the city of Coca to take the afternoon flight back to Quito.
