Magellan Explorer

Classic Antarctica Air-Cruise (8 days)

The Magellan Explorer is a new and modern expedition vessel custom built for Antarctic air-cruises. She was constructed in Chile to the latest Polar Code specifications to start service in 2019. The Magellan Explorer has the capacity for 73 passengers in seven categories of accommodation, including dedicated single cabins. The ship also features a glass-enclosed observation lounge and presentation room with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, a spacious and stylish dining room, a well-stocked bar, library, gym and sauna.





After your arrival you will be transferred from Punta Arenas to your hotel.

Day 1: Punta Arenas

Arrive in Punta Arenas, Chile, before 2PM where you are welcomed by Antarctica 21 staff and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon you will attend a meeting where you will receive some invaluable, practical information to prepare you for your cruise to the Antarctic. This evening mingle with your other guests and enjoy your welcome dinner, on offer, a typical regional menu.

Day 2: Punta Arenas - South Shetland Islands

Your Antarctic adventure begins with a short flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island, in the South Shetlands. Take some time to explore the area surrounding Frei Chilean Base and the Bellingshausen Russian Base. Later, take a Zodiac towards the Ocean Nova.

Days 3-6: Cruising the Antarctic Peninsula

The next 3 days are spent cruising between the South Shetland Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Glide past ice-filled fjords and between spectacular, imposing icebergs. Marvel at the sight of sea birds, seals, whales and penguins. Your voyage may include visits to sites such as Paulet Island, Hope Bay, Port Lockroy, Petermann Island, Paradise Bay, Deception Island, the Lemaire Channel, or many other magnificent places. Prepare for adventure, with a variety of landings each day and regular trips by Zodiac, which will take you to the heart of the action! On board lectures consolidate the learning experience. Creature comforts aboard the Ocean Nova, as well as sumptuous food and free flowing drinks, will complete your expedition adventure.

Day 7: King George Island - Punta Arenas

Return to King George Island today, by Zodiac. Upon arrival at the Frei Chilean Base you will head to the airport to take your connecting flight back to Punta Arenas. This marks the end of your cruise. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for the night. (Note: Meals in Punta Arenas are at your leisure and not included in the program).

Day 8: Punta Arenas

After breakfast, transfer to the Punta Arenas airport for your onward flight.


Disembark the ship at King George Island and board your return flight to Punta Arenas. You will then transfer to your hotel for a one night stay before making your onward journey home.
