5 Day Peruvian Amazon Cruise (Low Water Season)

The Aria is a brand new, custom designed, 3 deck, luxury yacht, launched in April 2010. Day 1: Nauta - Marañón River

Arrive in Iquitos and enjoy a scenic transfer to the river, where the Aria will be waiting for you. Settle into your cabin and explore the impressive amenities as the ship sets sail and your adventure begins! This evening there will be a safety briefing on board, followed by a welcome dinner. Later, enjoy a nightcap on the observation deck, under the stars, before retiring to bed.

Day 2: Yanayacu - Pucate River - Maranon River - Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

After breakfast, board your skiff to explore the Yanayacu, Pucate River, an amazing black water stream which is part of the huge Amazon flooded forest. Here you can observe many species of flora and fauna. Return to the ship for lunch and in the afternoon enjoy a visit to a native village along the great river Maranon. As the sun sets, you will hear the second symphony of the Amazon rainforest, as other nocturnal animals send their shrill calls across the treetops. Return to the boat for dinner.

Day 3: Samiria River - Nauta Cano - Pacaya Samiria

After breakfast, your guide will discuss sustainable development projects in Amazonia. You will then visit one of the projects, where villagers are planting palms to obtain oil. Head into the jungle to encounter wildlife first-hand and discover the value of medicinal plants found here. Return to the ship for lunch. Later enjoy an excursion to Nauta Cano in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, along the Samiria River. You will travel through the "Jungle of the Mirrors," where towering trees are reflected in the dark river. In this area you may observe iguanas, toucans, macaws and many other species. Return to the ship for dinner.

Day 4: Maranon River - Tahuayo - Amazon River

After breakfast the ship sails along the Maranon River where you can observe a rich display of flora and fauna. Arrive at a casual community where you will hike on land observing a a plethora of wildlife. After lunch on board Aria, enjoy an excursion along the Tahuayo river where you may observe local fishermen in their canoes and a plethora of wildlife including tropical songbirds, terns, pipites and hawks. You may also try your hand at fishing for the ferocious piranhas and other species. Return to the ship for dinner and a crew presentation.

Day 5: Iquitos

Enjoy your final breakfast on board before a short excursion, river levels, weather conditions and time permitting. You may have the opportunity to visit an animal rescue centre called Fundo Neycer on the Amazon River. Here monkeys and birds receive expert care from naturalists. After lunch you can visit the Manatee Rescue Centre, where biologists and volunteers care for endangered Amazon manatees. Biologists will give a presentation about this project and how it is helping the endangered mammals, preparing the manatees for reintroduction into their natural habitat. There will be a final stop at the San Juan Amazonian Indian Market for a last chance to buy some souvenirs, such as local crafts. Transfer to Iquitos airport for your flight back to Lima, depending upon your travel arrangements.
